Our tours in 2013


Running through the adventurous landscape of the northern highlands is a unique experience. Our route lies partly through the protected area of the National Park of Vatnajökull. The landscape varies from bright green vegetation to black deserts of volcanic ash. The volcano of Askja and its caldera is known for it’s spectacular beauty and overwhelming atmosphere. After crossing through rough lava and black deserts we arrive to Lake Mývatn magical wonder.

The well known Landmannalaugar rhyolite mountains are our final destination, after travelling through the deserted highlands of Iceland. The area is highly affected by volcanic activity, forming craters and fissures, volcanoes and . Starting point is the long sea of Langisjór in the middle of the highlands and hopefully catching some viewpoints on our circular 5 day run to Landmannalaugar, which is the starting point of the well known Laugarvegur trek/run.

This tour starts by the magnificent Lake Mývatn and passes by some of it´s best known geological wonders. On the second day we enter the National Park of Vatnajökull and will run by phenomena like the waterfall of Dettifoss and the horse shoe shaped canyon of Ásbyrgi. We will explorethese phenomena on our way through the Dettifoss trail.

The tour starts off with a bus ride from Reykjavík into Þórsmörk valley crossing many rivers on the way by car. We arrive to Þórsmörk and have lunch by our hut before heading off to the first run of the trip. We run a part of the very well known hiking/running path of Laugarvegur to reach a view over the canyon of Markarfljótsgljúfur. We continue to another viewpoint, this time to overview the valley of Þórsmörk.

The beautifully formed Mývatn is derived from the eruptive craters of Þrengslaborgir which we follow on this tour. Amongst running through a gorge of basalt columns and over fresh water springs coming from underneath the lava we find our way between the mountain huts of the highlands south of Mývatn.

This tour offers some of the most peaceful and magical places to be found in Northeast Iceland.The run goes by the edge of the arctic only 3km south of the Arctic Circle at the northernmost point of Iceland´s mainland. The area is characterized by the spreading of the Mid Atlantic Ridge, with canyons and valleys. It has been affected with irregular earthquakes which take part in forming this area which is like the highland down by the sea.
